Exclusively for China: Three-row Jeep Grand Commander Lands in Beijing

Called the Jeep Grand Commander, the full-size three-row crossover SUV has been built specially for the local Chinese market and has just made its world premiere at the 2018 Beijing Motor Show. Meant for seven passengers, the vehicle underpins the FCA CUSW platform with a longer – 110 inches – wheelbase (though, it’s narrower than the Grand Cherokee). You make a fine mistake if you think that the Grand Commander will offer a wide variety of powertrain options. It’s the only one: power comes courtesy of a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four mated to a nine-speed automatic ZF transmission while four-wheel-drive is standard.

The four-cylinder delivers 230 horses and 258 lb-ft of torque; if compared to the other Jeeps making at least 270 ponies and 295 pound-feet of torque, the Grand Commander is certainly getting low on horsepower. However, it looks pretty elegant with its spacious interior, wooden trim accents, Nappa leather seats and all the hot smart tidbits like Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. That sort of driving will cost around $44,000.
