Porsche Adds Carbon Fiber Wheels for Its 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series

$15,000 for braided carbon wheels available optionally on the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series only? Instead of a base Ford model, for example? Porsche says ‘yep’ and introduces carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer wheels, lighter and stronger, but rather a more expensive – a set of such in-house developed wheels will probably cost you at least $15,000. Alas, building a CF wheel is not on the cheap side.

According to Porsche, this carmaker is the first who used the whole carbon fiber wheels for its models (Hi, Koenigssegg!), not to mention Porsche first used such an ultimate complex technology. Boasting a weight of 19 pounds each, and being about 20% stronger, these high-tech wheels are made of carbon fiber and the same CF-fabric. 11 miles of carbon fiber as well as 86 square feet of fabric are rumoured to be used for a wheel.  The wheels consist of more than 200 pieces and feature deliberately simple, 7-spoke design to contrast with the snazzy Exclusive Series exterior.
