Toyota Turning Dreams into Reality with SkyDrive EV

How to bridge the gap between our dreams about flying cars and reality? Toyota seems to know how make it happen; moreover, they want the final product will be in time for the 2020 Olympics.

SkyDrive, that is claimed to be the world’s most compact flying car, is being developed by Cartivator, an ambitious Japanese startup. Toyota as well as Taizo Sun, the world-known Japanese web developer, is now making some investments (around 40 million yen) in the startup. The future flyer-EV is expected to work like a drone being capable of vertical landing and take-off.

According to its crowdfunding page, the main aim is not only to build a flying EV by 2018, but also to have it commercialized for the next Olympics to light the Tokyo torch. The futuristic-looking SkyDrive is expected to measure 9.5-foot and will be capable to fly 33 feet above the ground boasting a top flight speed of approximately 62mph. Mass production is scheduled to start by 2030.
