Audi Completes the A5 Lineup with Cabs
Winter doesn’t seem to be a proper season to buy a cabrio. Audi has just shared the refreshed version of its convertibles, though. The fifth and sixth members of the A5 lineup, the 2018 A5 and S5 cabriolets, have just debuted as drop-top companions to the A5 and S5 coupes. And the lineup is completed now. However, happy customers wouldn’t opt for these cabs until spring 2017.
At its heart, the cabs share the MLB Evo architecture; due to this, the models are larger, lighter and stiffer compared to the predecessors. According to the Audi’s press release, the convertibles dropped up to 88.2 lbs; because of its extra lightweight properties, aluminum and carbon composite materials are widely used.
European customers will choose from five diesel options including two TFSI gas variants delivering 252 horsepower, and three 286-hp TDI engines, along with three transmissions. US buyers, though, will be limited in engine choice; only a 2.0-litre 252 ponies four cylinder power unit, or a 3.0-litre V6 in the S5 putting out 354hp, would be available. Such powertrains as an eight speed automatic transmission, a seven-speed dual-clutch and a six-speed manual should be the same for all local cabs versions. Both models will also boast Quattro AWD.
