Ford Adds Latest F-150 Crimefighter to Police Fleet
While catching criminals, police will be able to rough off-road pursuit after adding a new crime-fighting vehicle to the fleet. Ford has already given the Police Interceptor Utility that shares its platform with the Explorer, to cops. Now, it’s pickup turn: the police segment vehicles top-seller, Ford revealed the first police pursuit-rated off-roader, the 2018 Ford F-150 Police Responder.
Having at its heart the old-but-gold 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 producing 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, along with a ten-speed automatic gearbox, the Police Responder platform underpins the F-150 FX4 off-road model. A top speed is electronically limited and ups to 100mph. The super-cop-truck has a 7,000-pound tow capacity and a host of features improved to earn the pursuit rating. It concerns, first of all, the higher-performance front and rear brakes modified with enhanced friction material; then, the car gets a stiffened, thicker front anti-roll bar and all-terrain, thicker “cop tyres” for 18-inch aluminum wheels. Well, then, this pursuit pickup seems a real deal for hard police work.
