Maserati Announced All-Electric Two-Seater to Come in 2020
Recently, Maserati announced that they will jump into the EV market launching its first battery-powered EV version. Codenamed the Alfieri, this luxury two-seater sports car will arrive in 2020, a year after the petrol version. Visually, the 2020 version will look like a luxury sports sedan, with huge wheel arches, lightweight body panels and chrome inserts. The size of the car will come close to the Jaguar F-Type size, according to Peter Denton, Maserati North Europe GM.
The Alfieri concept car was first unveiled at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. That version originally featured a 4.7-liter V8, changed to V6 power unit due to the fuel emissions and economy. The EV version is expected to follow the same fuel-based V6 Alfieri package. The chassis design is considered to be ultimately modified, though, by reason of the weight saving. With that said, the pure-electric Alfieri will be the first Maserati model boasting a principally new electrically efficient chassis along with a conventionally powered drivetrain option. Such a radical strategy will deliver weight reduction and essential fuel economy.
