Prancing Horse Commemorates Its 70th Anniversary with New 911 Speedster Concept
Built to mark 70th anniversary of Porsche sports cars, the vintage-styled 911 Speedster Concept is actually a sleek drop-top GT3 sporting 500 horsepower and lightweight performance. Exact performance figures and specs haven’t been revealed yet, but we know for a fact that the concept will run on a naturally-aspirated six-cylinder engine cranking out 500 horses and a 9,000rpm mated to a six-speed manual transmission sending power to the rear. The radio, navigation and the air-conditioning system are off as saving the weight matters. The bucket sports seats are also made of carbon fiber, to reduce the weight.
Dating back to the 1950s with the Porsche 356 Speedster, the drop-top features two-tone – Silver and White – paintwork that is reminiscent to Porsche’s early racing runners. Unmatched ‘Talbot-shape’ mirrors, gold-plated badges, a center-located fuel tank cap and special headlight covers pay homage to early Speedster tradition harkening back to Porsche’s years in motorsport. The concept’s body has been borrowed from the Carrera 4 Cabriolet while the chassis comes from a new 911 GT3. Instead of a convertible top, the 911 Speedster concept gets a lightweight tonneau cover aimed to protect the interior from the poor weather conditions.
