A Tonka Truck Hitting the Road: Toyota Revealed a Hilux-Based Concept
Toyota celebrates its 80th anniversary this year; to mark this date, the company teamed up with world-famous toy maker Tonka when creating a full-size truck toy. Dubbed the Tonka Concept, the rock-crawling beastie underpins the Australian R5 double cab version of the Hilux pickup. Not for nothing this version has been chosen; the Hilux is claimed to be the best 2016 top-seller local vehicle. The Tonka Concept closely follows its predecessor; it is as powerful as it looks.
Powered by a 2.8-liter turbo engine mated with either a manual or automatic transmission, the production version of an extremely looking off-roader destroys all terrains delivering 174 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The exterior stays on its tail: the Hilux-based concept is wrapped up in the flamboyant black-and-yellow livery, 35-inch off-road tyres, carbon fiber tailgate with an integrated spoiler along with two air vents, massive fender flares, not to mention the aggressive front bumper and a LED light bar on the roof for better off-road capability.
