Totally Vintage: Mitsubishi Will Re-Build 1917 Model A as Plug-In Hybrid
To mark its centennial anniversary, Mitsubishi Motors NA is going to re-build its iconic Model A, the very model that started it all. Instead of going ultra-futuristic, the Three Diamonds seems to choose another alternative such as re-creating its first vehicle with adding the latest automotive technology. Working in partnership with California-based West Coast Customs, the carmaker will re-create the original 1917 model underpinning the modern-day Outlander PHEV platform.
In its time, the classical Model A was a four-door seven-seater powered by a 2.8-liter four-cylinder engine delivering 35 horsepower. According to West Coast Customs, the re-created Model A will feature its vintage look with a sheet metal chassis, gas headlights and a wooden polished frame alongside with an ultra-modern plug-in powertrain. The exotic plug-in hybrid is being created at WCC factory in Burbank and is expected to be totally completed this summer.
