Back to the 2016 NAIAS: Debuts and Hopes
Being a highly regarded automotive event, the Detroit Motor Show is best remembered for its great (and anxiously expected!) debuts in our mind. There are highly elegant production trim versions, dramatic stylish concepts of the hottest ever supercars along with the exciting engineering as well as talented design solutions. 2016 Detroit Motors is already in the books so let’s sum up all the stunning highlights and breathtaking debuts.
Lincoln
Lincoln revealed 2017 Lincoln Continental in the production version at the NAIAS. Tech-savvy and luxurious, the model looks like a breath of fresh air in the lineup. Powered by an exclusive 3.0-litre V6 engine, the trim model delivers 400hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. 2017 Continental is expected to hit the sales market this fall.
Buick
At Detroit Motors, Buick showcased one of the most awesome concepts of any automotive makers. Last year, the GM’s daughter showed the notorious Avenir concept; this year, it hits Detroit with the successor. Buick Avista features a dramatically-looked concept and RWD platform delivering 400ph with a 3.0-litre turbo V6.
Chrysler
2017 Chrysler Pacifica (+Hybrid) was found as the most significant pug-in standouts at this event. This minivan looks hella good (for a minivan) with the improved seating and a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Chrysler claims fuel economy up to 80mpg and the 3.6-litre V6 Pentastar. The model is stuffed with tons of smart handy features and is expected to go sales this spring.
Lexus
We could only imagine what would be Lexus LC 500 pricing after hitting the sales market this spring. Kudos to the design team – this concept looks quite sophisticated and well-weighted without any derivations. The RWD sports coupe boasts a 5.0-litre V8 producing 467hp and sprinting to 60mph in 4.5 seconds. A carbon-fiber roof, a safety package as well as the 10-speed automatic transmission… we can hardly wait the price tag.
Volvo
The Sweden automaker keeps carefully a basic sedan profile for all-new 2017 Volvo S90 making it luxurious. Aimed to replace the S80, the S90 shares the architecture with the previously introduced XC90 along with adopting some powertrain features. The premium Volvo flagship comes with a T8 twin-engine Hybrid powertrain and delivers up to 410hp.
BMW
“Highly anticipated” BMW M2 debuted in Detroit. The Bavarian giant made the whole sensation with two performance-active coupe concepts here, having revealed the X4 M40i along with the M2 Coupe. A more aggressive exterior, a higher output as well as the BMW all-new turbocharged engine in the stellar 2-Series chassis combined with the Connected Drive Service seem to satisfy a driver fairly. Worth waiting for this year’s April.
KIA
The award-winning Telluride Concept by KIA has been considered to be the best luxury SUV concept this year. Debuted at 2016 NAIAS, this three-row 7-passenger concept offers premium comfort and the supreme design look. Kia provides a unique feature for second-row occupants: measuring sensors are incorporated into the seats to improve the passenger’s comfort.
Nissan
Kudos to the designers made this concept! The Nissan Titan Warrior Concept definitely has set the truck bar high. An incredible futuristic design sounds pretty good, with the upgraded wider fenders and redesigned headlights. The Warrior shares the powertrain with the current Titan XD featuring six-speed automatic transmission mated with a 5.0-litre diesel engine. The entire interior is performance-focused and “a Modern Armor” designed.
Porsche
2017 Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S cannot fail to be noticed at Detroit Motors. The general shaping has not seemingly been altered except improved front and rear ends. However, the major changes have affected the modified powertrain producing now 540 and 580hp correspondingly, as well as upgraded intake ports and enhanced fuel injectors.
Honda
The 2017 Ridgeline pickup will appear on sales in the first half of 2016. Featuring quite a functional styling, this debut appears to be just conventional. The model mostly shares the specs with the 2016 Pilot and comes with a 3.6-litre V6 engine. FWD and AWD configurations would be available, though, the full specs list has still not released (we wonder about a final towing capability).
