Falcon Said Farewell to Aussies

Last week was lights out for the Ford Falcon in Australia. The last local-built bright blue XR6 Falcon has rolled off the assembly line summing up pretty much the end of a long journey of Ford manufacturing in the Land Down Under.
Having started car making in 1925, Ford is considered to be the oldest Australia’s car manufacturer. This rear-drive XR6 appeared to be the last model off the production line at local Ford’s Broadmeadows Assembly Plant on October 7.

The Blue Oval announced it would go on its future automotive plans in Australia as an import-only brand.  Ford has completely ceased its Australian manufacturing bringing the loss of job to more than 3,500 employees.  According to the words of Bob Griziano, Ford Australia CEO, the company didn’t take such a decision lightly. However, after Ford Australia had experienced a financial loss of $141million after taxes, they had to end production. Killing off Falcon is expected to have a certain ripple effect on the Aussie automotive industry as the main Ford’s rivals, Toyota and GM Holden, have similar steps along the same lines.
