Fast & Furious: Subaru WRX STI Guns A New Lap Record Around Nürburgring
Circling the Nürburgring, Subaru finally succeeded to grab the fastest lap of the iconic German circuit with its specifically-Prodrive-built racecar. The WRX STI Type RA NBR Special sets a new record for four-door sedans with an unbelievably fast 6:57:5. Richie Stanaway was the driver for the record time, great done, Richie!
Challenging the track, the WRX STI became almost as speedy as a Porsche 918 Spider at the same circuit. Actually, only half a second slower. The record breaking was formally verified by the Nürburgring officials.
The upgraded racecar’s aero package includes ultra-lightweight wheels, a carbon-fiber roof panel, an adjustable rear wing, a huge rear diffuser and a bulky front splitter, to provide more impressive downforce. The Ring recorder comes with a 2.0L turbocharged, rally-spec, flat-four Boxer pushing over 600hp at 8,500rpm. Subaru claims the Type RA will be limited-run built; only 500 units featuring a 2.5L 310-hp Boxers are going to roll off the production line.
