Mercedes-AMG Revealed First Sketches of a GT4 Race Car
One of the most rapid-growing motorsport classes, GT4 hogs the limelight due to fascinating race cars by Porsche, Ford, McLaren and now, Mercedes-AMG. The latter developed a brand-new GT4-spec racer for Customer Sports AMG program, to expand the Mercedes-AMG motorsport program around the world competing with the FMC Mustang GT4, Porsche Cayman, McLaren GT4 version of the 570S or up-and-coming M4 GT4 by BMW.
Tobias Moers, AMG head, revealed the innovative GT4 project at the Mercedes annual celebration of the motorsport season’s end in Stuttgart. The perspective newcomer is based off the race-ready AMG GT R; however, the AMG department is yet to reveal the engine details or specs as the development is still underway. The forerunner offers 577 horsepower; hope the GT4 successor would get either cooler or faster. Actually, it could be powered by a naturally aspirated GT3’s 6.2-liter V8 or a road-ready 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8. We also wonder if the GT4 would be race-ready.
